Our vision

At Soil to Savor Gardening, our vision is a community where every family and individual, regardless of their experience or schedule, can connect with nature, grow fresh and chemical-free food, and find joy and peace in sustainable gardening. We strive to inspire a generation of gardeners who prioritize health, sustainability, and a lasting bond with the environment.

I vividly remember being invited over to a friend’s house for dinner during my graduate school days. We were both working toward earning our doctorates in Materials Science and Engineering, and time was a precious commodity. If you weren’t working on your research, you were wasting your time. So when my friend showed me their small, but prolifically producing vegetable garden, I could only think, “Cool... but why would I want to do this when I could just go buy it at the grocery store?”

It wasn’t until after I finished my PhD, got married, and moved several growing zones north to the Capital District of New York that I started dabbling in growing my own food. My first experiment? Hydroponically growing salad greens in our basement. I was hooked. Fresh salad whenever I wanted, with no more soggy lettuce wilting in the back of the fridge? Yes, please.

When my husband and I became homeowners, we built our first raised bed garden and, over time, expanded our garden space year after year. Once I started savoring the fruits of my own labor, I finally understood what all the excitement was about. There’s nothing quite like the taste of fresh, nutrient-dense vegetables that you grew yourself—something you can’t find on store shelves.

Looking back to my graduate school days, I chuckle at my naive thoughts. What I once couldn’t understand, I now passionately embrace. My mission now is to help others experience that same satisfaction—the joy of growing and savoring fresh food from their own soil.
